This is a poem about what I’ve learned about myself and furthermore my feelings during lockdown. Inspired by the song “Everybody dies in their nightmares” by xxxTentacion

POEM
Feel like I’m trapped in my damn mind.
Lockdown has us trapped physically but I’m feeling the toll mentally.
It’s like I’m at the races & my thoughts are the runners taking their places
At the sound of a bang, the runners push off with an explosive force with nothing but tunnel vision because the finish line is all they’ve envisioned.

As the sweat runs down their face and their joints begin to ache they encounter an excruciating pain camouflaged as self-loathing.
Some thoughts run, some stay.
But one thing remains.
Hesitation comes bearing chains.

Lockdown has served as a catalyst for introspection.
There is nowhere to escape your thoughts and feelings but to confront them.
As we look into ourselves.
We’ll see things we wish didn’t belong.
Don’t be discouraged by the demons you see.
This is your chance to tame them by the leash.

The more we let our demons take the lead.
The more our finish line is merely just a dream.
Maybe I should trust the process.
Put less focus on the distress of having my eyes only on success.
Finding liberation in the journey instead of the destination.
